Metro Briefing - New York - Manhattan - 3 Accused Of Faking Tiffany Jewelry - NYTimes.com

Federal authorities have arrested three people and accused them of selling counterfeit Tiffany & Co. jewelry. Nadine Vargas and her husband, Yaniv Shamir, had advertised the pieces on the Internet, according to a federal complaint. In December, federal agents found about 600 pieces of fake Tiffany jewelry at the couple's Staten Island home, the complaint said. The third suspect, Chee-Soon Tai, operated a store on Canal Street in Manhattan that sold fake Tiffany pieces, according to federal authorities. All three were arrested last week and charged with criminal copyright infringement. If convicted, they face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Mr. Shamir and Ms. Vargas bought the jewelry ''legitimately at estate sales,'' their lawyer said. Stacy Albin (NYT)
